Week 11

2. The difference between a director and a producer boils down to the director handling the creative side of a project while the producer handles the business side of a project. The director utilizes the resources at hand to turn their vision into a cohesive work. The producer handles the logistics of making this happen.

3. Producers are more involved with the actual creation of a project, overseeing all aspects. The executive producer usually has final say over creative aspects, while an executive producer is more there to help ‘get things done’.

In The Wolf of Wall Street, Leonardo DiCaprio both plays Jordan Belfort and is a producer on the film.

4. A director’s vision statement is a statement about what the director wants to accomplish with a film.

5. The vision statement should include why the director has passion for the film, the intended impact on the audience, and the style of the film, including the cinematography, acting, editing, music, and tone. For example, a horror film would likely intend for the audience to be scared, but might also specify that they want a realistic style of acting and camera movement to immerse the audience further.

6. A producer would want the vision statement so they can better understand what the director wants to accomplish, hire the right actors and crew, and understand how to market it effectively.
